“Blog madness” invades the smashLAB environment

You know, some people start a blog and get a few readers. We did that with ideasonideas. Now… a smart person might recognize that doing so actually takes a fair bit of time. That kind of person might find guest authors, repurpose content, and add a lot of links to other stuff.

I am not a smart person.

In addition to ideasonideas, I’ve started this blog, and now we’re also working on one for the MakeFive community. In fact, I’m fibbing a little. The MakeFive blog has been live for a few months now, but it was so terribly ugly that we kept it hidden away for. Well, that all changed today; we just redesigned the MakeFive Development Blog, and I have to say that it looks pretty darned sassy.

The MakeFive blog is a much more restrained effort than our other blogs, so at least the mandate is clear enough. All it covers is information about the MakeFive community, improvements to the site, and announcements about contests and things that may be relevant to users. I don’t expect that a lot of people will read it, but those who like MakeFive will likely get something out of it.

For anyone reading who is interested in design, you might find this post interesting. In it I discuss some of the little changes that we’re wrestling with as we work to make the site more usable and fun. I’ll be posting these relatively regularly, as it’s the kind of thing I’d be really interested in if a company like LinkedIn were talking opening-up such discussions.

In the meanwhile, I have a few fun little links to share. They are largely our reaction to the overly serious bios that we tend to write for ourselves here. These were WAY more fun. In fact, they might even be awesome.

  1. Sassy, indeed!!! Great looking blog! Well done! You’ve clearly awoken from your catatonic state into a serious creative mania that will undoubtedly last into 3 next lives.

And, Shelkie: who knew! That’s some serious rock ‘n roll roots (I’m sure those Romanians will never be the same). Perhaps one day we will all revel and take pleasure in seeing the odd grain of rice on Devin’s board — hilarious, guys!

  2. oh ya, almost forgot … it’s always fun to add the phrase “in bed” at the end of a fortune cookie’s fortune … :)

  3. Nice post eric. :D I really like MakeFive. And i just bookmarked this blog. cheers!

  4. Thanks Doreen,

We hired the guy from “Behind the Music” to create all of those bios. Even we were surprised to learn such interesting things about ourselves. ;-)

Nice to meet you Dan! I hope to see you around MakeFive soon! :-)

    Cheers!

    Eric
